Earlier this year, the American Cancer Society had detected that approximately more than fifty-six thousand people had thyroid cancer. Forty-two and four-hundred and seventy were women (42, 470). Fourteen thousand and four-hundred were men (14, 400). Although, this cancer is highly treatable and the procedure of removing the thyroid is common and, from what many have claimed, a “pain-free” surgery, some have developed further complications if it was not caught sooner.
This year, around two-thousand people had passed from thyroid cancer and most were women (1, 090 women and 920 men) (Cancer.org, 2017).
Although the statistics for thyroid cancer tend to be lower than other cancers, such as heart, breast, and more, it is still a serious condition to always monitor and get a routine checkup on, if told so by a doctor. More women have been said to developed thyroid issues over time, but it is still common with men too. There are many signs to keep alert on with thyroid cancer, something that can begin early on which is now being seen with teenagers and young adults.

- Fatigue
- Increased sensitivity to cold
- Constipation
- Dry skin
- Weight gain
- Puffy face
- Hoarseness
- Muscle weakness
- Elevated blood cholesterol level
- Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
- Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
- Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
- Thinning hair
- Slowed heart rate
- Depression
- Impaired memory
